Placing DWGs as drawings in ArchiCAD10
TechTip of the Month winner of July 2006 - by Laura Yanoviak (USA)
In ArchiCAD10, it is possible to place DWG files by drawings – thus avoiding their attributes being imported to your file (in this case the DWG cannot be modified within the file of course).
To do this, choose the Drawing Tool (below the Figure Tool in the Toolbox), click in the location where you want the DWG to be placed, and a dialog window will pop up where you can locate the desired DWG file.
Select it, then click on Open and it will be placed in your PLN file (beforehand you will have to choose what a DWG unit should correspond to in ArchiCAD) – still giving you the option to resize it, change the pen set it is using, its colors to greyscale or Black and White, set a transparent background and a frame if you so desire – all these options arranged neatly in the Drawing Default Settings dialog.
Hint: Drawings can be set to be manually updated, but also to automatic updates, this may well ease working together with engineers and always including the most up to date information in your project file.
