How to Create Interior Elevations

ArchiCAD 11 introduces the new dedicated Interior Elevation Tool which works similarly to the Section-Elevation tools (which are two separate Tools as of ArchiCAD 11). Creating, editing, placing and publishing Interior Elevations has now become considerably faster and easier to manage.

For a description of the Interior Elevation tool, see “Interior Elevations (IE)” in ArchiCAD Help.

Let us review how it was done in previous versions and how it is done from ArchiCAD 11 on.

Creating Interior Elevations with ArchiCAD 11

Follow these steps:

1. Use the Interior Elevation Tool to create Interior Elevation Views. You can place individual Interior Elevation Markers for each Interior Elevation View or create a Marker to include all Views.

2. Trace the edges of the Zone or other area you wish to place the Interior Elevation Marker into. You can use various Geometry methods to draw the contour of the Interior Elevation boundary, including Single Edge, Polygon, Rectangular, Rotated Rectangular. You can link the Interior Elevation to the Zone (if any) for its vertical range. Each Interior Elevation, with its component views, is grouped as an Interior Elevation Group in the Navigator.

3. Edit or modify the individual line segments of the limit lines of individual Interior Elevation Views. They work similarly to the way Section/Elevation lines are edited/adjusted/broken.

4. Place the individual Interior Elevation Views onto Layouts or place the whole group of related Interior Elevation Views onto a Layout.

To automate the arrangement of an IE Group’s views onto a Layout, see “Arranging Multiple Drawings on the Layout” in ArchiCAD Help

5. Publish individual Interior Elevation Views or groups of related Interior Elevation Views directly from their Views, or publish the Layouts they were placed onto.

Creating Interior Elevations in ArchiCAD 10 and earlier

The steps involved are the following:

  1. Using the Document > Document Extras > Interior Elevation > Choose & Place Marker menu command, define a Marker and place it into a Zone (make sure the Zone has been defined properly).

  2. Select Zone or Interior Elevation Marker and use the Document > Document Extras > Interior Elevation > Create menu command to generate it. The Interior Elevations will be based on the Zone geometry.

  3. Use the Document > Documenting Tools > Create Independent Details menu command to create an Independent Detail View. You can create a separate Detail for each View of an Interior Elevation or one Detail for all Views belonging to an Interior Elevation Marker.

  4. Copy and paste the Interior Elevation Views into the Independent Details. For the copy step, use the Marquee to define the selection area to copy or use the Select All command to copy everything.

  5. If you wish to arrange Interior Elevation Views on Layouts, then place the Independent Details containing the Interior Elevation Views onto Layouts.

  6. Publish (print/plot/save as file/upload to FTP server) the Interior Elevation Views directly from the Independent Detail Views or by publishing the Layouts they were placed on.
