Here you can find some changes between ArchiCAD 9 and Archicad 10 that are functional and have a positive effect on performance:
OpenGL 3D navigation feels much faster and uses significantly less memory. This is achieved by:
- during navigation, the model is simplified, details are ignored
- hidden parts of the model are not calculated
vectorial shadow casting in 3D/section is based on a new algorithm, making shadow casting faster. Difference can be an order of magnitude in case of large models. (Measures showed 5-6 times faster shadow casting at mid-size projects and even more significant speed improvement at oversize projects)
updating drawings on layout is faster and uses significantly less memory. The update process is based on a new algorithm, and is much more robust. Tests show that even extreme size documents update fast and without any problem.
file sizes are smaller due to the file compression implemented in Archicad 10. Even without compressing, an integrated file is usually significantly smaller than the AC 9 PLN and LBK files combined. This is most beneficial when working over the network.
the new library container file (.lcf) is a more effective way of managing library parts, and - although difference is less significant when loading a local library - it does make a difference when loading remote libraries from the network.
