1. Basic Editing command available in all Views

ArchiCAD 9 allows you to perform only some of the basic editing commands in the 3D Window and even less in Section/Elevation Windows. Basic editing commands (such as Drag, Rotate, Mirror, Multiply, Elevate) can be performed almost exclusively in the Floor Plan View.

In ArchiCAD 10, all the above basic editing commands are available in all Views, if they are valid commands in that particular View. For example, in a Section/Elevation, you may have only the Drag and Elevate command, if you have your Section/Elevation Line parallel to the Wall.

In a general case of the 3D Window all these commands are available, giving greater freedom to design in 3D as much as possible.

2. Sill of Wall Openings

In ArchiCAD 9, Doors and Windows are vertically anchored to the bottom of the parent Wall. This is the only choice. There is another option you can set in the Preferences Dialog. You can set globally – and separately for Windows and Doors – whether changing the height of the Window/Door opening should modify the Head Height or the Sill Height of the Window/Door.

In ArchiCAD 10, these options are taken out of Preferences. Every Window/Door in the model can have its Anchor separately defined. Either the Sill or the Head of the Window/Door may be set relative to the Wall Base or the level of the Current Story/a Selected Story. In the Anchor field you can specify the Window’s/Door’s anchor to be Sill to Wall Base, Sill to Current Story, Header to Wall Base, Header to Current Story.

3. Movement of Wall Openings

In ArchiCAD 9, if you want to move Windows/Doors in a Wall, either on the Floor Plan, or in 3D or Section/Elevation, you need to click on a hotspot of the Window/Door when you specify the starting point of the Drag vector.

In ArchiCAD 10, this limitation is lifted. You may specify any point as the starting point of the Drag vector, and the program will correctly move the Windows/Doors. This is true both on the Floor Plan and in 3D Views.

In ArchiCAD 9, Windows/Doors can not be created in other Walls as a result of a Drag a Copy or Multiply operation. You have to create those Windows/Doors separately. In ArchiCAD 10, this is possible and it can be done in any Model View (Floor Plan/3D/Section/Elevation). The only prerequisite is that the Wall into which the new elements will be created must have its Wall plane in the same plane with the parent Wall of the Window/Door.

4. Dragging Wall Openings with other element types

In ArchiCAD 9, Windows/Doors can not be dragged together with other element types. It must be done in two operations: (1) move the Windows/Doors in the Wall; (2) move other element types.
In ArchiCAD 10, it is possible to move Windows/Doors together with other element types in a single operation.

This also works in case the elements to be dragged are selected with the Marquee.
